For a mainstream watch collection like the Casio G-Shock men’s watch to survive and thrive, it needs to reach out and attract new customers. And for the last few years, Casio has been doing exactly that by introducing the new MR-G and MT-G collections. The MR-G collection reigns supreme in the world of G-Shock watches, typically costing thousands of dollars, and is the most luxurious in the entire G-Shock lineup. They distinguish themselves with titanium cases and bracelets, and sapphire crystals. The G-Shock MT-G watches are next with their blend of stainless and resin construction, and are considerably more affordable as they are usually priced around the $1000 mark. Aesthetically, the MT-G watches are also more closely related to the other G-Shock watches. This, coupled with their more wallet-friendly price points, make them more popular among G-Shock buyers. Now, there’s a new MT-G model, and here it is, the Casio G-Shock MT-G MTGS1000D-1A9.
The new Casio G-Shock MT-G MTGS1000D-1A9 watch has all of the hallmarks of a high-end MT-G Casio G-Shock watch. For starters, Casio is keen to impress upon potential buyers that this watch is made in Japan, specifically their factory in Yamagata, a prefecture in Northern Japan. This particular point can be attractive to some G-Shock fans since manufacturing in Japan is limited to Casio’s most exclusive models nowadays. Right now, the majority of G-Shock watches are actually manufactured elsewhere all across Asia in countries like China, Malaysia, and Thailand.
Like other watches in the Casio G-Shock MT-G collection, the MTGS1000D-1A9 case is made using a combination of stainless steel and resin, although it must be said that the former material is more prevalent. The design of the case and the dial is identical to other watches in the collection as we saw with the GTGS1000 hands-on here. However, this new model stands out for its attractive color scheme of silver stainless steel body and gold accents in the form of gold front screws on the bezel, partially gold hands, and gold hour indexes on the dial.
It wouldn’t be a G-Shock watch if the MTGS1000D-1A9 weren’t highly shock-resistant, and to that end it features G-Shock’s Triple G Resist technology that offers protection against shock, vibration, and centrifugal forces. It also comes with all the G-Shock technologies and functions that fans have come to love, including a world time function, daily alarm, a fully automatic perpetual calendar, 1/20th chronograph, and countdown timer. The Casio G-Shock MT-G MTGS1000D-1A9 also has Multi-Band 6 technology, which allows the watch to receive terrestrial radio signals from six atomic time transmitters around the world to sync its time.
